About the programme:
Enter the vibrant world of Chinese opera through a hands-on workshop that brings this centuries-old art form to life. Participants will try signature movements, rhythmic footwork and stylised gestures used to portray characters and emotions on stage. Perfect for beginners, the session blends demonstration and practice, offering a lively and accessible introduction to the beauty and discipline of Chinese opera performance. Instructors include our resident opera teachers Zhuang Huixuan and Lin Jia.
About the Artist:
Tang Renaissance, Singapore’s first IPC dedicated to preserving Shanghai Yue Opera, has trained over 100 talents and staged more than 30 productions across the region since 2005, championing multicultural expression and cross-disciplinary collaboration that bridge tradition and modernity in the performing arts.
Teacher Zhuang Hui Xuan: Born into an opera family, she trained in opera, erhu and pipa from young. A Nanjing Xiang Opera Arts School graduate, she has received awards and performed widely, committed to preserving and sharing traditional Chinese opera locally and abroad.
Teacher Lin Jia: Inspired by his mother, a renowned opera artist, he graduated from the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Opera. He gained acclaim as scriptwriter, director and lead actor of Marshal Lim Bo Seng, a widely praised original opera now referenced on the Wikipedia page.
