The performance showcases both traditional and modern Chinese hand puppets, all handcrafted by Paper Monkey Theatre and a master puppeteer from Taiwan. This highlights not only the artistry behind the craft but also fosters cross-cultural appreciation and the continuity of this traditional art form

很久很久以前，在一个农村里，农夫们欢庆他们用血汗换来的大丰收，却忘了答谢老天爷赐予风调雨顺的好年头。恼怒的玉皇大帝因此命令龙王三年内都不准降一滴雨到人间！善良的龙女不忍心看到百姓受苦，偷偷伸出援手。玉帝知情后大怒，派遣天兵天将下凡捉拿她。老百姓为了报恩，想尽办法解救她。龙女能否逃过这一劫？

《灯节舞龙》将以互动方式，配上生动有趣的戏剧表演，舞蹈、音乐以及手工特制的戏偶，让小朋友欣赏多姿多彩的民间神话故事，加深对华族传统文化的了解。说不定，小朋友还可以成为故事里的一个角色哦！

我们将现代戏剧元素融入重新构思的中国传统布袋戏中，观众能在熟悉的环境中体验中华文化的丰富与深度。这种方式尤其能让年轻一代更容易接触、欣赏并理解中国传统文化的价值。

通过布袋戏演绎中国民间故事，旨在帮助年轻一代与耳熟能详的故事建立联系，进而培养对传统布袋戏更深的理解与热爱。此外，演出中呈现了由猴纸剧坊与来自台湾的制偶大师亲手制作的传统与现代布袋戏偶，展现了布袋戏工艺之美，同时促进跨文化的欣赏与传统艺术形式的延续。

Do you know the origin of the traditional dragon dance?

A long, long time ago, in a rural village, the farmers were joyfully celebrating their hard-earned harvest, but they forgot to give thanks to the heavens for the favourable weather and bountiful year. Angered by their ingratitude, the Jade Emperor commanded the Dragon King not to send a single drop of rain to the human world for the next three years!

Moved by compassion, the kind-hearted Dragon Princess secretly lent a helping hand to the suffering people. When the Jade Emperor found out, he was furious and sent heavenly soldiers down to capture her. The villagers, wanting to repay her kindness, racked their brains to find ways to rescue her.

Will the Dragon Princess escape her fate?

"Dragon Dance" brings this colourful folk tale to life through an interactive performance filled with engaging drama, dance, music, and specially crafted puppets. Children will be immersed in the rich world of Chinese mythology and deepen their understanding of traditional Chinese culture. Who knows —they might even become a part of the story themselves!

By incorporating modern theatrical elements into a reimagined form of traditional Chinese puppetry, audiences can experience the richness and depth of Chinese culture in a familiar setting. This approach makes it especially accessible for the younger generation to appreciate and understand traditional Chinese cultural values.

Presenting Chinese folk tales through puppetry aims to help the younger generation connect with well-known stories and develop a deeper understanding and love for traditional puppet theatre.

• Once sold, tickets are strictly non-refundable or exchangeable unless the Singapore government mandates the closure of events in Singapore. The Promoter reserves all rights to amend any terms and conditions without prior notice, and, in the event of any dispute, the Promoter’s decision is final.

Rating/Age Limit

• Admission is subject to tickets produced at the entrance.
• Infants in arms or children below the age of 4 shall not be admitted.
• Children aged 4 years and above must purchase ticket for admission.

Late Seating Advisory

• You are strongly advised to be seated before the performance start time.
• Latecomers will be admitted during suitable breaks, if any.
• Exceptions may be made at Paper Monkey Theatre's discretion depending on the nature of the performance.

Photography/Video Recording Rules

• No unauthorised photography, video and audio recording is allowed for this event.
• Please note that photographs and videos of patrons may be taken at this event for use in our archival and publicity material.
