Set in a bustling Nanyang coffeeshop, Kopi 不 Kosong is a heartfelt bilingual stage production that captures the everyday lives, joys, and struggles of Singaporeans across three generations.
Through laughter and tears, the play explores the generational divide between a conservative grandfather and his open-minded grandson, the quiet resilience of ageing hawkers facing change, and the dilemmas of a traditional physician caught between heritage and modernity. Alongside them are colourful neighbours — a fiery landlady yearning for love, a young woman seeking independence, and familiar coffeeshop patrons who remind us of our shared kampung spirit.
Infused with dialogue, music, and humour, the performance celebrates Singapore’s multicultural roots, blending Mandarin with English, Malay, and dialects. More than just a story of a coffeeshop, Kopi 不 Kosong is a reflection of our community, where cultures meet, relationships intertwine, and harmony is built through understanding.
At its heart, the play reminds us that in Singapore, no cup of kopi is ever truly kosong — it is always filled with memories, warmth, and connection.
