概要

No Strings Attached is an annual mini international puppetry festival organised by the 猴纸剧坊 Paper Monkey Theatre. The festival gathers reputable puppetry groups and artists from across the world. We have had the honour to host groups from countries such as Australia, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Italy, Taiwan and Thailand.

This festival aims to promote puppetry to the Singapore audiences by providing a platform for them to experience various forms of puppetry. The international and regional groups perform in mime or in English, and this makes it accessible for audiences to enjoy and understand puppetry as an artform. 猴纸剧坊 The Paper Monkey Theatre hopes to encourage interest and deepen the appreciation of the craft of puppetry through this exposure.

Theme for this year festival:

Uniting Generations, Preserving Potehi

Join us on an extraordinary journey as Potehi puppeteers from different countries present their own interpretations of the legendary Monkey King. Experience the magic of puppetry through both traditional artistry and modern storytelling, in a vibrant showcase of cultural creativity and imagination.

This year’s edition features an exciting line-up of master puppeteers, performances, and workshops that bridge cultures and generations.

Joining from Indonesia, Sanggar Wayang Potehi Siauw Pek San (萧八仙) presents a unique potehi performance Mount Fiery (火焰山) in Bahasa Indonesia, blending Chinese heritage with local cultural flavours. Representing Singapore, 猴纸剧坊 Paper Monkey Theatre stages The Web of Deceit (盘丝洞), a dynamic interpretation of a classic tale, reimagined with creativity and flair.

Audiences will also have the chance to take part in hands-on workshops, from puppet-making to learning how to perform with potehi, offering an immersive experience into the magical world of puppetry.
