Upclose with Brahma is a workshop series curated by Brahmastra Arts House as part of Sangeetha Yaatra and its 10th anniversary celebrations. This series features Brahma and its musicians — Vidwan Amith Nadig, Vidwan B.C. Manjunath, Vidwan G. Guru Prasanna, and Vidwan B.R. Somashekar — as they share their artistic practices and their experiences performing as a collective.
Designed not only for performers and composers, but also for the general audience, the workshop aims to inspire a deeper appreciation of the arts and the creative process behind Brahma’s musical journey.
About Brahma
BRAHMA is a unique and fascinating confluence of four like-minded musicians, representing an innovative fusion of instrumental music and vocal percussion. It brings together the enchanting melodies of the flute, the intricate rhythms of the mridangam and khanjira, and the captivating vocal percussion of konnakkol. This harmonious blend forms a dynamic synergy, epitomizing the essence of traditional Karnatic music. The flute introduces soulful melodies, evoking a sense of tranquility and emotion. The mridangam and khanjira infuse the composition with complex and mesmerizing rhythmic patterns, creating a pulsating energy that underpins the musical narrative. The inclusion of konnakkol adds a layer of vocalized rhythm, transforming the performance into a complete sensory experience. BRAHMA's collaboration goes beyond individual musicians' talents, focusing on a unified musical journey that captures and delivers the essence of Karnatic music in a novel way. This is an immersive experience that pays homage to tradition while embracing innovative experimentation.
