In Their Own Words: Translating Character Dialogue

Join acclaimed translator Arunava Sinha for a hands-on workshop on the art and nuance of translating dialogue. Participants will learn techniques for handling slang, as well as strategies for preserving character voice, cultural nuance, and subtext.

Participants should come with a draft of an existing piece of translation they would like to workshop on.
About Arunava Sinha
Arunava Sinha translates classic, modern, and contemporary fiction, non-fiction and poetry from Bengali and Hindi into English. He also translates fiction and poetry from English and Hindi into Bengali. Over 95 of his translations have been published so far in India, the UK, the USA, and Australia. He has won or been shortlisted for various translation prizes in India, the UK, the USA, and Australia. He teaches at Ashoka University, where he is also the co-director of the Ashoka Centre for Translation, and is the Books Editor at Scroll.in.
Cancellation Policy
The programme can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the date if the minimum number of participants is not met. Participants will be fully refunded for programmes cancelled by us.
Participants who are unable to attend a programme they have registered for are to inform us of the reason two weeks before the programme date. They will be fully refunded in the event of extenuating and mitigating circumstances (E.g. illness, bereavement, accidents)/ Those who inform us up to 5 working days before the programme date will receive a 50% refund. Those who did not turn up at the programme will not receive a refund.
