As participants create their own digital “living archive,” they gain first-hand insight into how art can preserve, reinterpret, and reimagine memory in accessible and participatory ways. This empowers them to understand art as both a reflective and creative tool for storytelling, connection, and cultural continuity.
Weaving Memory is an introductory workshop that invites participants to explore the world of Extended Reality (XR) through hands-on creative engagement. The session begins with a brief introduction to Augmented Reality (AR). Participants will then learn to apply these technologies through a collaborative exercise that “weaves” a string of shared memories drawn from everyday life and cultural heritage.
Through guided activities, participants will use their smartphones to 3D scan a small personal object, discovering how simple digital tools can preserve memories in new and meaningful ways. With step-by-step guidance on lighting, scanning techniques, and export formats, each participant will create their own shareable 3D model. The workshop also includes a short neighbourhood walk around Sculpture 2052, encouraging participants to observe how care, community, and daily life are expressed through the area’s public spaces. From benches and playgrounds to void decks and the Project Same-Sama vending machine, participants will explore how ordinary objects and architectures can be seen—and scanned—as sculptural gestures of care.

The programme fosters appreciation and understanding of art by connecting traditional ideas of memory and materiality with contemporary digital practices. Through hands-on 3D scanning and Augmented Reality activities, participants experience how artistic processes can transform ordinary objects into carriers of meaning, identity, and shared heritage.
