About the programme:
This introductory workshop invites participants to step into the foundational techniques of Odissi, one of India’s classical dance forms. Through guided exercises, participants experience how posture, rhythm, and expression merge to create a balanced and interconnected body vocabulary. The session reflects the idea of symbiosis by showing how dancers align breath, movement, and awareness to create harmony within the form.
About the Artist:
Chowk is a non-profit dance company rooted in classical Indian dance while experimenting with Asian and Western somatic practices to create a unique Singaporean idiom of Asian contemporary dance. Their performances merge tradition and modernity, transcending cultural boundaries and reimagining the fusion of past and present in today’s multicultural society.
Raka Maitra is a dancer who defies the conventional dichotomy of 'classical' and 'contemporary', who explores the notion of 'Asian culture' through her own language of contemporary dance.
Mitu Das was initiated as a Gotipua dancer at the age of five under the direct supervision of his grandfather Padmashree Guru Maguni Das. He has been training in Odissi ever since and joined Chowk Productions earlier this year.
